High Route of the Ecrins

Great journey in the Ecrins massif, known also as “La Grave – Vallouise” with included climb to a 4.000 metres peak, the Dôme de Neige des Ecrins. One of the most beautiful and demanding routes in the Alps, inside a wild environment.

 Programme

Outward journey: Arrival from Spain by car. Spend the night in Gite/Hotel.

• Stage 1: Ascension with the cable car to the Dôme de la Lauze (3.568m) and descent out of the track to la Selle shelter (2.673m).
• Stage 2: Tete sud du Replat (3.428m) and descent to the Chaterellet shelter (2.232m).
• Stage 3: Col de la Casse Deserte (3.843m) and beautiful descent to the de Alpe du Villard d’Arene shelter (2.077m).
• Stage 4: Demanding journey to the Ecrins shelter (3.175m) through the Pic Neige Cordier (3.614m), the fundamental part of the high route.
• Stage 5: Ascension to the Dôme de Neige des Ecrins (4.015m) and descent to the Glacier Blanc shelter (2.542m).
• Stage 6: Journey to Monetier les Bains through the Col du Monetier (3.339m) and return to La Grave by taxi.

  Transports, cable cars, shelter expenses, both from the client and the guide and trip costs.

 Necessary material

Mountain skiing materials (skis, boots, furs, blades, poles), personal security material (2 technical ice-axes, crampons, harness, Arva transceiver, shovel, probe, climbing lanyard, 1 security snap hook and helmet), adequate clothes for high mountain and cold (gore-tex or similar jacket and trousers, 2 pairs of thermal socks, helmet or balaclava, thermal underwear and change, two pairs of gloves, sun and blizzard glasses, 40-50 litres backpack, water bottle, attack food (sweet and salty), isotonic drink, suncream, head torch and extra batteries, toilet bag and a light sleeping bag.
